A RESOLUTION


Honoring and remembering the life of Connie Houston; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia lost one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Connie Houston on March 31, 2008, at the age of 68; and

WHEREAS, she was born on May 15, 1939, in Lewisburg, Tennessee, and was the daughter of the late Charles Aiken Houston, Sr., and Josephine Woodward Houston; and

WHEREAS, she is survived by her son Lisle Houston Engle and his wife, Eliza Marie, of Los Angeles and her daughter Laurin Engle Gaylord and her husband, Jay, grandson Grant Houston, granddaughter Emmaline Paige, all of Atlanta and is also survived by her brother Dr. Charles Aiken Houston, Jr., of Roanoke, Virginia, sister-in law Linda Knowles Houston, of Roanoke, Virginia, nieces Heather Bligh Houston and Laura Ashley Houston Hardaway and husband, Ben, all of Atlanta; and

WHEREAS, she was a graduate of The University of Richmond and earned a Master´s Degree from Armstrong Atlantic University; and

WHEREAS, she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Georgia Historical Society, and the Savannah Historical Society and served on the board of directors for Habitat For Humanity of Savannah; and

WHEREAS, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Savannah; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Houston was retired from Savannah Country Day School where she taught for 35 years and touched the lives of thousands and the school´s spirit award has been named The Connie Houston Spirit Award; and

WHEREAS, she will be dearly missed; it is fitting and proper that we extend sympathy to her family and friends.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join together to express their deepest regret at the passing of Connie Houston and extend their most sincere condolences to her family.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Connie Houston.
